It’s not every day that I get super excited about a line of fashion dolls, but it was hard not to feel the thrill when I heard about a new series from Mattel that took the concept of Monster High in a new, sweet, whimsical direction. When I first saw Ever After High at my local Toys R Us I could see that the rumors of a cute new face on the Monster High body were holding up to their promise. The dolls were adorable. I especially loved the fun details on the shoes, and how each doll’s outfit said something about her story and personality. And then there was the packaging. Every time I look at it I notice something new, but from the beginning I loved the adorable fashion illustrations on the side of each box and the story book aesthetic.
A Few of the Ever After High characters
The line up is pretty substantial, with the daughters of most of the princesses and other story book characters I remember from my childhood making an appearance. With names like Apple White, Raven Queen, and Madeline Hatter you know they’re not just following in mom’s footsteps. Like Monster High, these girls have lives of their own. I love it! Somehow it captures the same kind of fantasy and whimsy I loved in my Barbie dolls when I was a kid.
The doll’s shoes warrant an entire blog post of their own, but I couldn’t get a good photo of the shoes without removing the dolls from the package. As I took all my photos in the store I couldn’t do that, but I promise they’re all really fun and very detailed.
I noticed this doll’s rose flowers sleeves of molded plastic. What an inventive way to get the look of multiple roses without spending a lot of money on satin rosettes. Cerise Hood also has a lot of molded plastic details. I like her grey striped hair. She has something of the wolf about her doesn’t she?
The full line of dolls is available at Target, and it seems like every time I check them out there are a few more dolls to enjoy. If you’d like to see more check out the in-depth reviews at The Toy Box philosopher: Cerise Hood, Madeline Hatter, C.A. Cupid and Apple White.
Have you seen the Ever After High dolls yet? What do you think of them? Are you as charmed as I am?
