Since I discovered Bloglovin I’ve struggled to figure out an aesthetically appealing way to advertise the service. Bloglovin is a website that allows you to keep track of all the blogs you read. They specialize in design, art and fashion blogs. In fact it’s rare to find an artsy blog that doesn’t have the little blue Bloglovin button in the sidebar. I could just use their button but honestly I don’t love the way it looks. They also offer a couple of drawings that can be used as icons, but it feels silly to have a fashion illustration portfolio with someone else’s sketch in the sidebar. I wanted to create my own Bloglovin icon, so I did!
Creating My Bloglovin Icon
My search for a cool looking Bloglovin icon started a couple years ago. When it became clear that Bloglovin wasn’t going to add anything new to their button options I started sketching my own ideas. Then freelance work and life intervened and I never completed the project. The other day I was organizing some old papers when I found the pencil sketch. I scanned it and put it into Adobe Photoshop where I finished the drawing. Here it is! I am really happy with how the lettering in the hair looks. It’s just how I imagined it would be.
