Those of you who follow Heather Fonseca Fashion and Doll Design on Facebook have already seen a bit of Pony Royale because I’ve been sharing links and videos like crazy recently. I also created a new page here on my website to show off the dolls. So what are they and what do I have to do with them?
Twelve Beautiful Princess Ponies
Pony Royale is a collection of equine princess dolls with interchangeable manes and tails. They are in many ways a classic fashion doll as they’re meant to dress, undress, and dress again. This snippet from the Pony Royale website explains the concept further.
Pony Royale is an open-ended play system that promotes creativity and delivers on girls’ favorite play patterns – fashion play, hair play and nurturing. The story invites girls to imagine they are the princess with all these beautiful ponies to love and care for—it is a fresh new empowering way to play out princess fantasies.
Doesn’t it sound like fun? This little one minute animated video tells the story of the magical ponies:
A Collaborative Doll Invention
But what did I have to do with these pretty ponies? Well, in 2009 I began collaborating with Nancy Zweirs of Funsophy on new toy inventions. Together with a team of toy artists and marketeers including Margi Wray , Mitzi McCarthy and Kim Ferguson we created prototypes of several beautiful pony dolls and their magical world. Nancy Zweirs sold the idea to Razor and with the combined effort of a number of talented individuals and designers on the development team the idea evolved into this beautiful line of dolls. They will be on shelf July of 2012. As soon as I see them at my local Target I will be purchasing a few to share with you here on my website.
