A Collection of Black and White Fashion Illustrations

The clothing company L for Lazarus commissioned this collection of black and white illustrations to display their line of elegant winter hats, called “echapeau”. The echapeau is an ingenious combination of hat and scarf.  The scarf can be worn different ways depending upon the needs of the wearer.

Echapeau (Noun): Derived fron the French words for scarf and hat (echarpe and chapeau) the L for Lazarus echapeau is an elegant combination of both.  The unique design, with it’s popper fastening system, means the echapeau can be worn as one stylish piece, or as a classic hat and scarf set, or as individual items.

The designer needed black and white illustrations that showed how her hats could work with a number of different outfits.  I designed the outfits and then created this set of illustrations. They show the hats with everything from a pair of jeans and a sweater to a long winter skirt and plaid coat.

The echapeau is really versatile. I loved how the hat includes a cute scarf. You won’t loose it in the wind! Unfortunately I have no need of such a warm hat here in sunny Los Angeles. I still really enjoyed working on this commission and dreaming of weather cold enough to get really bundled up.

These illustrations all feature unique outfits that I designed for the project. They are hand pained with gouache and ink.
